(500) Days of Channel Orange

Channel Orange is easily the best album I’ve heard all year. Frank Ocean’s Tumblr post/Thank You notes where he opened up about a past homosexual relationship made his life and records a million times more intriguing.

But what hit me while listening to the album was it’s correlation to one of my favorite movies, (500) Days of Summer.

My Not-Review of 2 Chainz Based on a T.R.U. Story

20120814-020226.jpg

I was hoping Def Jam didn’t make Tity Boi 2 Chainz release a “girl song” as the lead single. The Nicki Minaj assisted “I Luv Dem Strippers” didn’t drop until the week before the album did as the third single. So kudos.

The 35-year-old 2 Chainz has had quite the run over the last 12-18 months (depends when you hopped on). But shit got really real when he spit the best verse on “Mercy,” and “No Lie” ft. Drake and “Birthday Song” ft. Kanye only ignited the flame.

So the album is hot…right?

Drake to Executive Produce Aaliyah Album; “Enough Said” Released

Late last week, HipHopDX reported that Drake will be the executive producer of a posthumous Aaliyah album. And just as they expected, a new Aaliyah record, “Enough Said,” featuring Drake was premiered on the OVO blog Sunday evening and then later that night at the OVO Fest.

We all know Drake’s obsession with Aaliyah by now, but this has evolved from He’s a huge Aaliyah fan, too! to Yo, we know you love Aaliyah now, to Damn nigga, you did what? Doesn’t this remind you of Stephen King’s Misery? The letter was cool, but there were some eh excerpts. The tattoos were Nah, I’m good on those. Y’all know what’s next…yep, necrophilia.

Drake executive producing Aaliyah’s album is like the ultimate collector’s item. Imagine a Star Wars fan getting a hold of George Lucas. Or an avid Harry Potter reader with J.K. Rowling in their basement….and then helping them create another story. Sounds sweet as fuck, right?

I tend to digress, but the problem is with Timbaland and Missy Elliott and their not-involvement in this project (that we know of). What is going through their minds?

God Forgives, I Don’t…And I Don’t, Either

Musicians can’t stay hot forever. Only a select few can even come close to a 10 year music career. Five years in any genre is pushing it. After that, you can count most artists out. They won’t vanish immediately, but fans and media will hold on a few years too long while these artists have either diminished in skill, can’t top the charts, are crowded by new artists, or quite simply…the jig is up.

**I wrote a similar piece on Lil Wayne jumping the shark last year. I’m doing OK so far, no?
